Kurdish YPG & SDF in Heavy Clashes During The Battle For Raqqa | Syria War 2017

War in Syria 2017 – The Battle of Raqqa is the fifth and final phase of the Raqqa campaign launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF and YPG) in the city of Raqqa. The battle began on 6 June 2017, and is being supported by airstrikes and ground troops from the US-led coalition. The operation was named the “Great War” by the SDF.

Kurdish YPG & SDF forces continue advances into city. On 14 September, the SDF fully secured al-Thaknah, “one of (Raqqa’s) most important neighborhoods”, after a 24-hour-long battle. With al-Thaknah captured, the SDF controlled about 70% of Raqqa. By this time, the situation of the remaining 300 to 400 enemy fighters in the city had become desperate, as they lacked fresh water, food, ammunition and weaponry; some of them were even sent foraging into SDF-held territories in order to get direly needed supplies. Nevertheless, many militants refused to consider surrender, and instead launched suicide attacks on coalition forces when their positions became untenable. The remaining ISIL resistance was centered on Raqqa’s north as well as enclaves in the south-west and central city.

Heavy aistrikes by the U.S. Air Force on 20 September caused militans to retreat from its last five northern neighborhoods into the central city, which the militants deemed more secure. Northern Raqqa was subsequently occupied by the SDF without much resistance, bringing 90% of the city under the coalition’s control.

Battle for Raqqa continues…

  1. Whoever the guy at 2:15 is needs to have all guns and grenades taken from his as ! First off he's shooting up in the air not even towards the enemy and second he ran 50yards like girl to throw that grenade ! LMFAO

  2. Что за пострелушки на камеру!??! что за бред !!!! террористы бегают и стреляют в разные стороны… и что??!

  3. You see countless articles and videos and Facebook posts of the YPG begging western countries to support them with ammo and vehicles and so on, but now I can see why no one is helping them out and that's because they are a bunch of loose animals with no care oh thought or structure into helping them self's out. Their organisation is fighting the most powerful and effective terrorist group on this planet but fighting with a unstable organisation with no structure oh plan into it. Wastage of ammunition, no military structure oh command. ISIS have a numerous organisations of their own Private Military Contracts with special forces ability if you watch the videos. The YPG need to get their asses in line and structure of the organisation in place to the highest and most effective standards before any coalition force will step in to help out. You wouldn't invest into a business if you knew it wasn't going to be successful. If anyone of the YPG see's this, just know that the western countries and other coalition military's are sitting back waiting for you to prove to them that you can take structure and proper military command of your organisation. Like I said they are not going to invest into a business that's not going to success.

  4. yeah guys sure, just keep running around with your finger in the trigger well. that wont end poorly when you're all running in front of each other.

nice ammo conservation, too. looked like all shots are on target. 10/10
